Newcomers

What Happens on Sunday?

When you arrive, you will be greeted at the door and handed an order of service. Like a theatre program, this tells you what will happen during the service and about other events at the church throughout the week.

In the narthex, you will find a visitors' book, we welcome you to sign this book so that we can send you an information package about our church and upcoming events.

At St. Andrew's, children stay with their parent(s) for the first part of the service and then go to another room with a volunteer teacher for a Sunday School program during the months of September to May. Visit the EDUCATION section of this website to find out more.

St. Andrew's provide nursery facilities with a caregiver all year round, however, if you want to cradle your baby or toddler throughout the service, we understand that crying and squirming are part of their small lives and are quite acceptable during our service.

Services tend to be about an hour in length and start at 10:00 am. There will be some readings, normally from the Bible.

At St. Andrew's we love to sing. Music and words are provided either in the Order of Service or in a hymn book in the pew.

Our minister provides sermons which are reflective of the readings for that day, and relates it to current events and life in general.

There are several times for prayer during our service. Some of these will be given by the minister, and others by a member of the congregation. In our church people remain seated to pray rather than kneel.

Communion is served numerous times a year, but not every Sunday. Participation is open to all people attending the service, but is not mandatory.

An offering of money is collected to support the work of the church. There is no set amount; people give as they are able. Donation envelopes are available by contacting our church office or you may wish to make monthly debits from your bank account by joining the PAR program.

At the end of our service, people gather for refreshments and conversation in the Upper Hall. It's there for everyone and you don't have to be a member to join in.

If you would like to become a recognized member of our church, please contact our church office or complete a new member information form. We normally have a "New Members Service" several times per year.

Church Life Through the Week

Community and friendship are an important part of St. Andrew's church life. We have many activities and events that you can join or participate in that will help you meet people, make friends, and do worthwhile things. At St. Andrew's we have many ways for one to get involved. Below are a few examples:

Congregational dinners and lunches
Visiting shut-ins and elderly
United Church Women's Group (UCW)
Adult choirs

Please visit other sections of this website to find out more. Maybe you have a unique idea for a project or event that would flourish at our church. Discuss it with our church office and try it out!
